ATLA and the Scholarly Communication Committee have partnered with ACRL to host its popular roadshow event, “Scholarly Communication: From Understanding to Engagement,” for ATLA members. This day-long interactive workshop will take participants through scholarly communication fundamentals including publishing, copyright, and library outreach as well as provide deep dives into text and data mining issues for humanities research and open access and open education topics that are most relevant to the institutions served by ATLA member libraries. The workshop will be led by Carla Myers, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Scholarly Communications at Miami University Libraries, and Rachael Samberg, Scholarly Communication Officer at the University of California Berkeley.
The ACRL Scholarly Communication Roadshow will take place on Friday, February 22, 2019, in Chicago at the offices of Quarles and Brady at 300 N. LaSalle. Registration will open the week of December 10, 2018, for ATLA Individual and Student Members and library staff at ATLA Institutional Member libraries. Space is limited; therefore, up to two persons per library or institution may register to attend. The cost of registration is $35 per person.
To support the attendance of ATLA members who live more than 50 miles outside of Chicago and who have interest in or responsibility for scholarly communication issues at their institutions, ATLA will make available ten scholarship and travel assistance awards. Recipients of these awards will receive a waiver of the registration fee and awards up to $750 to cover the cost of the hotel (up to two nights dependent on travel arrangements) and roundtrip travel to Chicago. For more information and to apply for a scholarship and travel assistance award, please complete the application form at http://bit.ly/ATLARoadshow by December 10, 2018. Scholarship applications will be evaluated by the ATLA Scholarly Communication Committee and recipients will be notified by December 21, 2018.
